Simon Höfele took his first trumpet lessons in his home city of Darmstadt; five years later he was a young pupil of Reinhold Friedrich, who accepted him at the age of 14 into his trumpet class at the Karlsruhe Musikhochschule. That led to his selection for the best European talent programmes, notably as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, ECHO Rising Star nominated by the Cologne Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus in Dortmund and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, and as artist in the “Junge Wilde” series at the Dortmund Konzerthaus. He has since been invited to play as soloist by major orchestras and at leading venues worldwide. In addition, he has a teaching role of his own, as Visiting Artist at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and in various master classes.
Alongside the well known trumpet repertoire, from Telemann by way of Tartini, Haydn, Hummel and Mozart to Jolivet, Arutyunyan and Zimmermann, Simon Höfele is a great fan of contemporary music and has premiered numerous works written for him by Miroslav Srnka, Mark Simpson, Matthias Pintscher, Kaan Bulak and more. He also regularly plays works by Toshio Hosokawa and Christian Jost, and is a just as enthusiastic chamber musician with a wide variety of partners.
His “Standards” album was praised by the press on its release early in 2020 and was awarded an OPUS KLASSIK later that year as “Concert Recording of the Year”. Simon Höfele complements his musical projects with politically relevant initiatives in the sphere of culture and the arts and has founded the association “Kunstverlust”, for which he photographs people who have actively committed themselves to the preservation of art and culture.
