The new album by Ukrainian pianist, composer and improviser Marina Baranova will be released on the Berlin Classics label on 7 March 2025. With ‘Salon de Ravel’, Baranova is celebrating the 150th birthday of Maurice Ravel, who was born on 7 March 1875 in the French coastal town of Ciboure. In ‘Salon de Ravel’, Baranova takes the listener on a musical journey to the sources of Ravel’s inspiration. She interprets not only his well-known works, but also his homages to other composers such as Borodin and Chabrier. Baranova arranges and interprets pieces such as Ravel’s ‘Menuet sur le nom de Haydn’ and “Berceuse sur le nom de Gabriel Fauré” for solo piano. As a composer, she also contributes to this album by creating a piece in the style of Ravel. ‘It’s a congratulation to Ravel on his birthday, but also an expression of my deep admiration for his art,‘ she remarks. “The composition ”A la manière de Ravel’ is my attempt to capture his musical language and at the same time bring in my own perspective.’
