Powerful High Notes from Salzburg
On April 4, 2025, French oboist Céline Moinet will release her fourth album on the Berlin Classics label. On this album, Moinet presents an exquisite collection of chamber music works by the Salzburg masters Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Luigi Gatti. She is accompanied by her long-time musical collaborators Mahamed Hiber (violin), Sindy Mohamed (viola), and Tim Park (cello). Together, they open up a fascinating sound world for the listeners, featuring both well-known and lesser-known works by these two composers.
The album’s repertoire includes Mozart’s famous Oboe Quartet in F major, K. 370, as well as the Andante cantabile K. 330, arranged for oboe quartet by David Walter. Additionally, the Adagio K. 580 is performed in a version for English horn. Luigi Gatti, a contemporary of Mozart, is featured with his quartets in C major and F major. These works provide a rare opportunity to discover Gatti’s innovative approaches and his virtuosity with the oboe. The F major quartet, in particular, is known for its challenging passages that push the technical boundaries of the oboe.
Céline Moinet, whose oboe playing is described by the trade magazine Fono Forum as “a true delight,” brings her exceptional ability to vary tonal colors and timbres to this recording. Her previous releases on Berlin Classics have consistently been praised for their musicality and technical brilliance. The Süddeutsche Zeitung describes her interpretations as “a feast for the ears,” while the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praises her “mastery of the instrument.”
