Biography

“Try something new” is his maxim, and so premieres and intensive teamwork with composers are just as much an integral part of Simon Höfele’s concert programmes as the classical trumpet repertoire with Haydn and Hummel. Inquisitive, unfazed and passionate about his instrument, he takes an all-round approach to the trumpet, thrilling his audience with coolly conceived and cleverly calculated programmes and his captivating playing. His affinity with contemporary music and with jazz comes out just as clearly as his classical training with trumpet legend Reinhold Friedrich.

In a short space of time, Simon Höfele has risen to the status of internationally acclaimed soloist, invited to play with orchestras like the Royal Concertgebouw and the BBC Symphony and at Europe’s major venues and festivals. He enjoys strong support from leading sponsors, being an ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) Rising Star for the 2019/20 season, nominated by the Cologne Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, artist in the “Junge Wilde” series at the Konzerthaus in Dortmund (2018-20) and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist (2017-19).
Alongside his musical projects he is committed to raising the profile of the arts in society and has founded the association “Kunstverlust”, for which he photographs people who are activists in the cause of art and culture.

Having set out upon this road, he hopes to keep right on in the same direction: to intensify his work with contemporary composers, develop new concert formats, avoid “marking time” or “getting stuck in a rut” and set wheels turning.
