First foretaste of Matthias Kirschnereit’s new album
On Matthias Kirschnereit’s upcoming album "Concertant" he features both the world-famous Piano Concerto and the lesser known, yet no less impressive Concert Pieces for piano and orchestra by Robert Schumann. He is supported by the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under Jan Willem de Vriend.
Today is the first foretaste of the upcoming album, which will celebrate its release on 22 March: "Schumann: Concert Piece, Op. 86: I. Lebhaft". Though we cannot be sure who set the Concert Piece for piano and orchestra op. 86, originally conceived for four horns and orchestra, it is clear that Schumann had something really large-scale and splendid in mind.
"And I am convinced that the work's infectious energy has transferred to the piano transcription, indeed, that the piano version brings out new facets," explains Kirschnereit.
