"There is nothing more pleasurable than to compose something oneself and then to hear it played." Clara Schumann
In her numerous concerts, the most famous female pianist of the nineteenth century performed works by her contemporaries, thereby adding to their success and enhancing their popularity. In view of this fact, it is all too easy to forget that Clara Schumann was herself a highly talented composer.
This vinyl by Ragna Schirmer pays homage to her two greatest cyclical works: the Piano Concerto op. 7 and the Piano Trio op. 17. While the concerto illustrates the spirit of the youthful virtuosa, the trio, with its melodic lines and polyphonic structure, is testimony to the artistic maturity of the versatile Clara Schumann.
