The Schumann Quartet releases the digital EP ‘Rosamunde – Fragment Pt. 1’
Franz Schubert is one of the most important composers for string quartets. However, only one of his string quartets was performed publicly during his lifetime. This string quartet in A minor, D. 804, which bears the name "Rosamunde", is now being released by the Schumann Quartet as a digital EP, recorded in co-production with SWR.
Songfulness is, in a word, the characteristic of this work with its catchy tunes. It was premiered by the then renowned Schuppanzigh Quartet, which cultivated a special relationship with Beethoven’s chamber music. The premiere at Vienna’s Musikverein was a great success and Schubert soon found a publisher for the work.
